formerly named Spiraea lobata. 2 gallon pots... Common names: Queen of the Prairie. A really tall perennial, hardy to USDA Zone 3. Of Upright habit, colonizing mainly by slowly creeping rootstocks. Moderately quick-growing and of long lifespan. Height: to 4-8ft, and 2.5ft wide. Native to E US: Pennsylvania/ Michigan/ Illinois/ Iowa/ Kentucky/ Georgia; naturalized in New England to Ontario and Newfoundland. Occasionally found naturalized in NS, mostly near Yarmouth. Regal and graceful. Stems unbranched. Recommended site: sun to part shade. Soil: good, largely organic loam, reliably moist but well-drained. Naturally occurs in meadows and prairies. Deep-rooted. In warmer climates (like England) this plant is happy in bogs and at the water's edge; worth a try here? Foliage coarse. Small bright pink flowers are borne as a very large Panicle in summer. Showy, feathery plumes on tall stems. May rebloom modestly if deadheaded. Some uses: Borders and Beds, in Shrubbery, Waterside, Wildflower, Naturalizing Meadows.
