Peony Seedling Gallery

last update August 2011; about 25 new seedlings this year.

These are unregistered, and mostly unnamed plants grown from seed collected off my plants. All are of Paeonia lactiflora origins unless otherwise stated. Pollen parent is left to the bees' imagination; pod parent was not noted unless otherwise indicated, although some good guesses can be made.

All plants shown on this page are available in 1 to 3 gallon pots at the nursery or bareroot by mail order in fall.

As near as I could tell, all (except hybrids) were fragrant to a greater or lesser degree and none were offensive to my nose; some were more exquisitely perfumed than others but I don't take notes on that.

Double-flowered forms generally are better as cut flowers (best taken when the buds are coloured and fat) because the stems rarely support the weight of the flower especially after a dew or mist or rain, and because they last longer. Single forms are great in the landscape because most of them will stand in most weathers; they're also decent as cut flowers but a bit messier than the doubles and not so long lasting.

WHEN ORDERING: please send me an e-mail listing your selections before you mail your order and payment. I will then confirm availability (and amend my lists and the web page) and hold your selections for you pending shipping upon receipt of payment.

A note about the photos: colouration is not exactly perfect, pink tones being particularily affected by light conditions. Some photos were taken before the flowers were fully open and I didn't get back to rephotograph them later but the pic shows you the colour of the flower. There is, however, a particular shade of dark pink, almost red, which just will not photograph properly. And for some reason some white flowers have a tint in their photo this year.

THERE IS ONLY 1 OF EACH (individual seedlings)... FLOWERING TIME HERE IS EARLY JULY USUALLY
